Margaret Lewis-John

Margaret Lewis-John comes to the MDP from St. Vincent and the Grenadines, an island nation in the Caribbean. An accomplished teacher at the secondary level for many years, she has completed an undergraduate degree in Accounting (Hons) and a Diploma in Teacher Education at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. She also holds various certificates from the World Bank Institute on Policies for Growth and Parliamentary Budgeting and from the UNITAR in the areas of Fundamentals of Micro Finance, and Understanding International Contracts and Loan Agreements. Margaret is an OAS Scholarship recipient, and is grateful for the opportunity through this program to develop the skills that are necessary to create positive socio-economic changes in the lives of the poor.

Margaret’s passion for development was sparked from her exposure to the salient issues faced by SME’s while working on a three-year EU-funded e-business development project. The project was a government proposed intervention aimed at facilitating business development services by providing technical assistance to entrepreneurs in the form of strategies for business start-up and growth. She expects that the MDP program will enable her to further develop her capacity to create empowerment opportunities that will enable Indigenous Peoples development in the Caribbean and indeed globally, thereby contribute to their improved living standard and well-being.
